Beauty taboo topics: Dandruff.

There are some topics that I never see addressed in the beauty world. One of them is dandruff.

However, dandruff is actually a very common problem. Whether it’s caused by stress, weather or skin conditions, it’s uncomfortable and whilst the constant itch and greasy feeling is unpleasant enough, it also makes you feel insecure.

I have had problems with dandruff for a long time. When I was a teenager, I even saw a dermatologist because of it, but no treatment would help. Only as I got older did it disappear on its own, but now it occasionally comes back, especially in winter time and, well, when I’m really stressed.

Through trial and error, I managed to find a way to somewhat control it, which I wanted to share with you today. There are three products that I introduced into my haircare routine, which I find make quite the difference.

Philip Kingsley Exfoliating Scalp Mask – £6.80 for 20ml [larger size available]

I love Philip Kingsley’s products. I used to use his Flaky Itchy Scalp shampoo a few months ago and really liked it. This product here is essentially an exfoliating scrub for your scalp. I use it about three times a week, in order to not wear my scalp out too much. I dampen my hair, put a little amount straight from the tube all over my scalp and then leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

OGX Eucalyptus and Mint Shampoo – £7.99

The scrub needs to be washed out with water very thoroughly before you can go on with your haircare routine. After having done so, I shampoo and condition my hair as normal. I have recently switched from Head and Shoulders to OGX as I felt like the H&S didn’t do anything for my problems anymore. I had used it for years and years and have often read that, once you used it, your scalp gets used to it and produces more grease and oil once you stop using it, so when I started using my new treatments, I decided to finally switch up my shampoo, too.

This shampoo cleanses my scalp really nicely and smells very fresh and minty. I am currently using the OGX Tea Tree and Mint conditioner up and will then be switching to the matching conditioner for the shampoo.

Schwarzkopf Dandruff Control Fluid – £8.60

This is the hero product. I’ve used this before and I think this is the one that actually makes most of the difference.
After lightly towel-drying my hair, I use this on a daily basis. It doesn’t leave your hair looking greasy at all, so I use a generous amount all over my scalp and leave it on whilst I do my makeup. Whilst I do that, my scalp does tingle a little bit but it just feels like it actually does something. I then blowdry as normal.

I’ve been doing this routine for about ten days and can already see and feel a difference. As I said, I think the Schwarzkopf fluid is what makes all the difference but I’m really happy with the other products, too.

’til next time x
