My winter skincare routine 2017.

I love a good skincare routine. Before I got into makeup, I was into skin- and bodycare and I still love it a lot. My skin’s changed quite a bit over the years and I have mentioned my three of my skincare staples here, but today I wanted to give you the detailed rundown on what I do and which products I use to specifically target my winter skin.

My skin is generally very sensitive and tends to show redness around my nose. It’s also quite dry, especially when the temperatures drop down, so I try to incorporate more intensely moisturising products into my routine to combat that effect!

 

AM skincare

In the morning, I do hardly anything to my skin apart from using the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash. It gets rid of the excess oil that has built up overnight and helps to keep my skin clear. I then use my holy grail eyecream, which is the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, which I raved about in my other post. It really is the best eyecream I have ever used. To moisturise my face, I’ve been using the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluid Sensitive Skin, which is supposed to help with redness. To be honest, I haven’t really found that my skin is less red but this moisturises my face nicely nonetheless. I also use a lip balm; at the moment, it’s the Carmex Vanilla stick one.

 

PM skincare

After wearing makeup for hours and hours, I really look forward to taking it all off. I start by using the Body Shop Waterproof Eye and Lip Makeup Remover, which is the absolute best – it will take down any mascara, no matter how sturdy! I’ll then go on to the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter; again, something I have raved about in my other skincare post. I have tried the Cleansing Oil but I prefer the butter. I use a hazelnut- to walnut-sized amount, depending on how much makeup I’ve worn that day, and massage it into dry skin. It breaks down all my face makeup beautifully, which I take off with a damp flannel. Once that’s done, I’ll go in with the Body Shop Aloe Calming Cream Cleanser and cleanse my skin thoroughly before rinsing it off with warm water. About two to three times a week, I exfoliate my face with the Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub, which is supposed to brighten your skin, too. I think this product is a bit too harsh for my skin, so I don’t think I’ll repurchase. The last step in my cleansing routine is to use the cleanser’s matching toner, the Body Shop Aloe Calming Toner, to make sure I get every last bit of makeup off my face.

Two to three times a week, usually after I’ve exfoliated my face, I use a face mask. I love the No.7 Beautiful Skin Hydration Mask for Dry/Very Dry Skin, which is fantastically hydrating and which I will definitely repurchase at some point. At the moment I’m trying the Body Shop Aloe Soothing Rescue Cream Mask. It’s supposed to be an overnight mask but I don’t really like the thought of sleeping with a face mask on, so I usually leave it on for about an hour or two before washing it off with lukewarm water.

Again, a few times a week I use an oil instead of a night cream, just to give my skin that extra bit of hydration. I’m using the Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil, which, if you ask me, smells exactly like Nivea products do. Either way, this leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated the next morning. If I don’t use this, I use the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Overnight Cream Sensitive Skin, again for anti-redness and sensitive skin. Oh, and I also smother my undereye area in the Kiehl’s eye cream so that it’s got all night to sink in.
