A day in Amsterdam

My boyfriend and I decided that it was time to get out of town. Literally.

With a whole lot of uni-work and general life-stuff building up over the last couple of weeks, we thought it was a good idea to turn our backs on the towns we live in and have a day of adventure. With the netherlands being only a short car ride away, we set off at 9am on a Saturday morning and headed to Amsterdam!

The first tip I can only recommend if you're going to Amsterdam by car - especially on the weekends - use their Park & Rides. Parking is so cheap as they have such a good system: usually parking would be about €1 to €4 an hour but if you use public transport to and from the P&R, you only pay €1 for the whole day! Plus, tickets for public transport are only €5 for two people on that system. It really is brilliant and the cheapest option you could possibly go for. More information here: German / English

We started by having a stroll from Amsterdam Central Station to the city.

Although it is only a two hour car ride away and I didn't expect much of a cultural change, I was so amazed by how much it reminded me of London! It might just be the feeling of 'big city life', or the fact that I heard more people talk in English than in any other language, but there were so many shops which reminded me of London - Topshop/Topman, Urban Outfitters, Waterstones, Mark & Spencers, Wagamama's... it was just lovely.

The weather was beautiful that day, and I absolutely fell in love with Amsterdam's architecture. I'd been there once but that was ages ago so it was super nice to take it all in again.

All day long, we only had croissants, pain au raisins, waffles, frozen yoghurt... but this little café was my favourite. Delifrance is a French café with the most amazing baked goodies.

Find them here: Damrak 83, 1012 LN Amsterdam

We strolled around town until the sun had set and then embarked on our journey back to uni-work and general life-stuff.
